I have come across the writeup of a scenario for TOON by Steve Jackson Games I ran at ConnCon ’97. (The file is dated 1999, but that must be when I typed it up from my handwritten notes. I specifically remember it was 1997 as one day of the con was on April 1st that year 🙂
It’s only 4 pages long, but it ran for the whole 4-hour slot even though I only had 3 players at the table. TOON is good for having to improvise from brief notes; just make sure to watch a bunch of Looney Toons and Tom & Jerry before having to run a game.
Anyway, here it is:
(I think I decided to dig up the file because I watched “Enter the Dragon” Thursday night for the first time in several years. The mind of a nerd works in strange ways.)
While going through my old gaming notebooks, I also found this:
I wonder if that is a “Top Secret” stat block?
I know I have the original version of TSR’s Top Secret boxed set stored away someplace, and I know I had picked it up by maybe 1984-1985 thereabouts.
Can anybody confirm if that looks like a Top Secret stat block?
(If it’s not, the only other thing I can think of is it might be related to my “Battlefield” game … I found various bits & pieces of some sort of “GI Joe”-type rules I had made up, and it was a d% system, so rules probably inspired somewhat by Top Secret anyway. Remember the old cartoon episode “Worlds Without End?” Where in an alternate world Cobra had won and the last remnants of GI Joe were resistance fighters? That was basically the premise of the game.)
When Giant Monsters Attack…
Who you gonna call?
The Warner Archive (discs made on demand) has FINALLY released part 1 of the main series of “Challenge of the Gobots.” (They already had the original mini-series.)
This definitely goes under “things that warped my brain” back in the 1980s, although honestly I barely remember any of it at this point.
Which reminds me, somebody should come up with a “transforming robots” RPG to emulate Gobots and / or Transformers.
Challenge of the Gobots
(Is the mid-1990s long enough ago to be kinda retro yet?)
